Kirsten Lucas has been working at IOB since February 2019. She obtained her doctorate in late 2018 at the University of Antwerp on the lobbying behaviour of interest groups at international organisations. Her research focused specifically on the policy-influencing strategies used by interest groups and policymakers. She also used quantitative methods to measure and explain the success rate of interest groups’ influence on international trade and climate policy.

Prior to that, Kirsten conducted research at the University of Antwerp on the influence of regional authorities on European policy. She attempted to explain why some regions manage to successfully influence European decision-making while others do not.

Kirsten studied politic science (research master) at Leiden University (2011) and international relations and diplomacy of the EU at the College of Europe in Bruges (2012). She was also an intern  at the US and Canada Division of the European External Action Service.

Kirsten specialises in lobbying and advocacy, interest groups, international politics, the EU, climate and trade policy, UNFCCC and WTO. She also has extensive experience with quantitative and qualitative research and is skilled at clearly presenting her findings (verbally and in writing).

Kirsten is the contact point for policy influencing at IOB.
