Research – Dutch contribution to UN Mission MINUSMA

The Dutch Cabinet decided in the autumn of 2013 to contribute to MINUSMA, a UN peacekeeping operation which had been established in response to the sharply deteriorating security situation in Mali. The Article 100 letter of 1 November 2013, in which the Cabinet informed the House of Representatives about the intended deployment, stated that the Dutch contribution would consist of staff officers, intelligence personnel, police trainers and civilian experts. Dutch involvement focused particularly on strengthening MINUSMA’s intelligence chain. In 2019 the participation of Dutch military units in MINUSMA was provisionally ended.

IOB evaluates the Dutch contribution to MINUSMA in the period from 2014 to 2019.
