Johannes Claes has worked at IOB since 2021. His research focuses mainly on safety and deployment in military missions, as well as migration. Prior to his role at IOB, Johannes worked on conflict and migration in the Sahel. He lived and worked in Niger and Senegal, among others, and performed fieldwork in Mali and Burkina Faso. Johannes obtained an MA in History and an MSc Policy Economics from the University of Leuven.
