IOB commissioned this literature review in the framework of the evaluation of Dutch support to refugee reception in the Syria region. This study, conducted by University College London (UCL), provides a synthesis of existing literature on the reception of refugees from Syria in Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq.

This literature review specifically addresses:

  1.  factors that play a role in refugees’ decision making regarding the choice of remaining in the region or migrating onward to third countries;
  2. social cohesion and participation of refugees in local communities;
  3. economic participation and the economic impact of refugees on local communities.

UCL was commissioned by IOB to conduct this review. The views expressed in the report are those of the authors and do not necessarily represent those by IOB.
