Cross-country analysis – Civil society, aid and development

The relationship between social development and development aid is ambivalent. This is concluded by the study commissioned by IOB and carried out by Prof. Irene van Staveren and Ellen Webbink of the international Institute for Social Studies (ISS, Erasmus University Rotterdam). They analysed the relationship between this social development and development aid in the past 20 years. This pioneering analysis was possible thanks to the Indices of Social Development database developed by the ISS.
