Marit van Zomeren has been working at IOB since September 2019 in the Development Cooperation cluster conducting research and evaluations on Dutch climate policy. In addition, she worked on the evaluation of the trade and investment policy. Previously she held various coordinating positions in policy departments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and two positions on Permanent Representations.

From 2015 to 2019, Marit worked for the Dutch delegation to the OECD as Deputy Permanent Representative. There she was involved in the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) and the International Energy Agency. At DAC, she was one of the committee’s chairs and worked as an examiner on the peer review of French development cooperation. Prior to that, she worked for fours year in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Inclusive Green Growth Department (IGG) on the climate, SDGs and sustainable development dossiers.

In 2007-2011, she worked for the Permanent Representation to the UN in New York, where she monitored the humanitarian aid, UNICEF, reconstruction and socio-economic dossiers. Her first three positions were related to the UN (social development, gender), human rights and Afghanistan (DVF, DMM, DAO).

Marit has experience with multilateral funds, programmes and financing, with ODA rules and development cooperation policy, as well as private-sector financing. Moreover, she gained experience while working for the Permanent Representation to the OECD with foreign economic relations dossiers, such as responsible business conduct and trade.
